In November 2023, Beijing launched a centralized bulk procurement program for medical equipment, planning to purchase over 2,000 units with a budget of 3.82395 trillion yuan. Subsequently, in 2024, more and more provinces and cities, including Sichuan, Anhui, Fujian, Hainan, and Henan, implemented bulk procurement programs for medical devices.
Yibin, Sichuan, explored a new model for centralized procurement of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, including eight categories of medical equipment in high demand by public medical institutions, such as color Doppler ultrasound, hemodialysis machines, beds, endoscopes, anesthesia machines, suspension bridge towers, DR, and CT scanners. The Xiamen Municipal Health Commission in Fujian Province issued an announcement inviting submissions of product information for the second batch of centralized medical equipment procurement projects. The Xiamen Municipal Health Commission plans to include 10 categories of medical equipment, including digital gastrointestinal machines, desktop color Doppler ultrasound, electronic gastrointestinal endoscopes, and portable color Doppler ultrasound, in the second batch of centralized medical equipment procurement. The centralized procurement quantity is nearly 300 units/sets, with a total budget exceeding 200 million yuan.
This round of centralized bulk procurement of medical equipment differs from that of 2015, focusing more on products that align with new quality productivity trends. Taking digital X-ray machines as an example, the centralized procurement of the past 10 years mainly focused on conventional static DR (Digital Radiography). This round of volume-based procurement prioritizes dynamic DR, which has a wider range of applications and diverse functions, aligning with the current hierarchical medical model. The contrast-enhancing capabilities of dynamic DR also facilitate precise lesion detection and provide painless, cost-effective examination options for patients unsuitable for gastroscopy or colonoscopy.
Furthermore, as a technical support platform for functional imaging and 3D imaging, dynamic DR represents the future trend of X-ray technology; innovative technologies cannot be further developed based on static DR.
